2024 Kia Carnival SX Prestige: Redefining Expectations

0

Coming from driving the Kia EV9 Land as well as the Kia Sorento most recently, it was interesting to be able to drive this 2024 Kia Carnival SX Prestige and compare them directly. Obviously the Carnival has the most interior space since it doesn’t have under floor batteries which limit the interior height, especially in the trunk area. It is also substantially larger than the Sorento, although, having said that, the Sorento did surprise us with what it could all carry with apparent ease!

Compared to the Kia EV9 Land the Carnival was clearly designed a longer time ago, and it shows both on the exterior as well as on the interior. The exterior design of the EV9 Land is much more futuristic than the conservatively styled Carnival, even though the Carnival isn’t that old yet. On the interior the Carnival has been updated, but compared to the EV9 as well as the Sorento, the perceived quality is much lower than either one of them.

Exterior Design: A Bold Departure

The 2024 Kia Carnival SX Prestige marks a significant departure from traditional minivan design. Its sleek and aerodynamic silhouette, combined with bold lines and sharp creases, gives it a more SUV-like stance. The signature “tiger nose” grille, flanked by sleek LED headlights, adds a touch of sophistication. The rear features distinctive taillights and a chrome strip that spans the width of the tailgate, enhancing its premium appearance.

Interior Design: A Haven of Comfort and Luxury

The Carnival’s interior is a testament to Kia’s commitment to quality and refinement. The cabin is spacious and well-appointed, with high-quality materials and ample legroom for all passengers. The second-row captain’s chairs offer exceptional comfort, with heating, ventilation, and power adjustments. The third-row seats are also comfortable, making the Carnival a suitable choice for families or those who frequently carry passengers.

The Carnival SX Prestige comes equipped with a wide range of features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, a premium sound system, and a panoramic sunroof. The driver’s seat is power-adjustable and heated, while the steering wheel is both heated and leather-wrapped.

Driving Dynamics: A Surprising Blend of Comfort and Handling

The Carnival’s driving dynamics are a pleasant surprise. The 3.5-liter V6 engine provides ample power for most driving situations, with smooth acceleration and confident passing maneuvers. The eight-speed automatic transmission shifts seamlessly, ensuring a refined driving experience.

The suspension strikes a good balance between comfort and handling. The ride is comfortable on highways, absorbing bumps and road imperfections with ease. However, the Carnival doesn’t feel overly soft or wallowy. The steering is precise and responsive, making the vehicle easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

Technology and Safety Features:

The Carnival is packed with advanced technology features, including a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and forward collision warning. These features enhance safety and convenience, making the Carnival a modern and technologically advanced vehicle.

Cargo Space:

The Carnival offers ample cargo space, even with all three rows of seats in place. The second and third rows can be folded down to create a flat cargo floor, providing plenty of room for luggage or larger items.

Conclusion:

The 2024 Kia Carnival SX Prestige is a testament to Kia’s evolution as a brand. It offers a compelling blend of luxury, practicality, and technology, making it a strong contender in the minivan segment. Its stylish design, comfortable interior, and capable performance make it a suitable choice for families or anyone seeking a versatile and refined vehicle.
