2019 Ford Mustang Convertible
We drove the 2019 Ford Mustang Convertible in the Greensboro, NC area for a while. I had been quite skeptical about the Mustang, since if presents itself with this HUGE front end overbearing everything else on the car, where the original had quite a low and sleek feel to it, which was making it THE hot car of it’s era.
The initial impression was taken away by it driving like quite a nimble car, actually. I was surprised. The driving position is good, the waste line is not too high to feel like you’re drowning, but does provide a sense of protection, which, as it turned out, I needed.
The Mustang came well equipped with all sorts of warning options as well, lane departure etc, and included an obstacle warning if you’re approaching another car at a higher speed. Sadly I came to find out that the sensor for this apparently does not sense with enough height. I got into a situation where, in the early morning darkness, a big rig truck had failed to make a u-turn and was stationary blocking the road. The sensor must’ve been scanning right below the center section of the trailer, since it only flashed up at the last part of a second, when I had already just realized the big dark obstacle on my path. Within the part of a second before impact I was only able to steer the car into the right rear tire of the tractor unit. There was no time for anything else.
The car was a total loss, sadly, replaced by a white Jubilee version, but the experience had left me thoroughly shaken, so much so that I tried to avoid driving as much as possible for a few weeks. I am finally getting over it, but when you don’t have a chance, it is daunting to me that I am dependent on how good other people are in risking my life to share the road with them.
Not a comforting thought.
